Mia’s bubs are now a week old and they are starting to look all fuzzy with hair.

Try as I did it was impossible to keep them in a nice neat line for the pic.

Last night Mia was building a HUGE nest on my desk and when I tried to take her back to her cage she bit down on my finger. She was also HUGE and I was thinking to myself it was not possible for her to go another week, her time according to the date we had worked out.

    first-litter

This morning we woke up to lots of “eeping” from the girls cage and she had delivered the babies. So there must have been other cage breaks I do not know of. The girls cage is now pegged down on all doors :) I separated her out into her own cage, moving the whole nest inside the trouser tube she had built it in. She is now inside a cage on her own, very happy and looking a lot slimmer again.

I counted about 14 babies when I moved her next but did not want to move them to see the exact numbers so I am sure there are more of them in there. She looks like she is doing a great job as I saw some nice full white bellies in the nest.

    Mia’s Litter

    Posted in: Litters

Mia is currently expecting with an unplanned litter, the naughtly girl. She should deliver around the 27th of this September. Mia is a gorgeous little Agouti girl that I adopted from Runebound. She loves to adventure all over during free range time. Of course we are not sure who the daddy is but anything is possible even Dumbos.

Alright – after further investigation and interrogation of children and husband I have it figured out. The kids tell me while I was away for the weekend in Cape Town for the HomeMakers Expo 2 weeks ago (5th & 6th) there was a time that they found Mia & Rosie out of their cage sitting on the boys cage. They say she was not on the inside but I know that she can get through the bars so she must have been inside at some point. My son says he cought her and put her back into her cage. Would have been nice for someone to tell me these things and not have me totally freaked out as I have been for the last 24 hours.

So this would mean that we are expecting. I am not too worried about Rosie as she is a bigger girl and can’t get through the 2cm bars. But you never know, I will have to keep a sharp eye on her too.
